Professor Dr. Mario Wüthrich

Professor Dr. Mario Wüthrich

Senior Scientific Advisor

Professor Mario Wüthrich brings world-renowned expertise in actuarial science and AI to insureAI, providing strategic guidance and advice on advanced methodologies and research initiatives. As one of the foremost authorities on applying machine learning techniques to insurance problems, he helps ensure insureAI's solutions maintain the highest standards of mathematical rigor while delivering transformative results for clients.

Professor Wüthrich currently serves as Professor of Actuarial Science at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology), where he leads research and teaching in insurance mathematics and quantitative risk management. He is Editor-in-Chief of the ASTIN Bulletin, the premier international journal of actuarial science, and has previously held visiting professorships at City St.George's, University of London, University College London, and Stockholm University.

His groundbreaking research spans stochastic claims reserving, discrimination-free insurance pricing, and interpretable deep learning models for insurance risk prediction. Professor Wüthrich's work on the LocalGLMnet architecture has revolutionized how neural networks can be applied in regulatory environments requiring model transparency. He was also instrumental in developing the Swiss Solvency Test, Switzerland's risk-based capital regime for insurers and has made fundamental contributions to Solvency II.

A prolific author, Professor Wüthrich's most recent work includes "AI Tools for Actuaries" (2025), where he leads an international team of actuaries and data scientists in exploring how modern AI and machine learning methods can enhance actuarial analyses. This comprehensive manuscript covers practical AI applications for advanced predictive modeling. His other influential books include "Statistical Foundations of Actuarial Learning and its Applications" (2023), "Financial Modeling, Actuarial Valuation and Solvency in Insurance" (2013), and "Market-Consistent Actuarial Valuation" (2016), which have become standard references in actuarial education and practice. His earlier works have focussed on non-life claims reserving.

Professor Wüthrich holds a PhD and MSc in Mathematics from ETH Zurich. His unparalleled combination of theoretical depth and practical insight strengthens insureAI's position at the forefront of actuarial innovation, ensuring our solutions address both current industry challenges and emerging opportunities in risk assessment.
